Textile artwork at the Back to Backs

The king and the textile curtain

King Richard and the textile curtain

Visual artist Sam Green worked with participants to make this beautiful textile artwork, which formed the backdrop for our performance at St Luke’s community centre. The curtain is made up of historic images of the market from Birmingham’s archive, and photographs taken by our student photographer Stefi Popescu. The photos were copied onto fabric transfer, and then embellished by participants.

Embellished photo transfers for the curtain

We also cut out fabric letters to make the traders’ calls. Fresh today darling!

Any bowl a pound, bab!

The curtain is now on exhibition at the National Trust Back to Back houses.
