Project songs

Mandy worked with project participants to write two songs which we’ve enjoyed singing at every gathering and event. Our first song tells the history of the Bull Ring Markets, right back to King Henry II who granted the first market charter in 1166.

The songs are both sung to traditional ballad tunes – the kind of song which would have been re-worked over the centuries, just as we have. You can read our history song here – sung to the tune of An English Country Garden.

Our other song celebrates the glorious variety of fresh produce and goods you can buy today at the Bull Ring Markets. This song uses the tune from the Lincolnshire Poacher. You can read the words here.
